Rewards/Discount Programs

Published by leahsfrog at 9:09 pm under Random Edit This

One thing that has saved me over $1500 in grocery bills alone is rewards/discount card programs. I have one for the grocery stores I shop at, the pharmacies I use, the auto parts stores, the gas stations and the photo studios I get our pictures done at. I am not talking about the store credit cards, most places offer discount and rewards cards that encourage you to spend your money at their store.

The cards are usually free, however the photo studio’s usually require some type of yearly fee. If you spend more than $100 anywhere a rewards and discount card is worth most fees if there are any.  when deciding wether or not to participate think about how much you spend at that store and compare it to what you must spend in order to use/redeem their card/points.

Some offer you free merchandise for spending a set amount, others offer a percentage discount on qualified purchases. A few of the ones I use have a points system where you earn points for all purchases and can redeem them for gift certificates or price breaks.

I do not sugest applying for store credit cards because it is just more temptation to spend what you don’t have. I am guilty of it as I’m sure many of you are, why tempt it? However if you have a credit card already and it offers you points/cashback if you use it to buy grocery’s , gas or everyday necessities then use them for that. My only suggestion is this; make a payment to your credit card company for the amount you will be spending BEFORE you even go to the store. We all buy groceries and gas anyway, why not let the credit card companies pay us to do it?
